Introduction: Who am I?

August 2015 Note: Visit my NEW website at http://beansnotbambi.com

I have always considered myself an active, healthy person.  I keep busy through work and exercise, and I’ve always made an effort to eat right, following tips on tv and in the magazines.  More protein, less carbs, real sugar instead of sweeteners, olive oil over canola, or whatever the current tip of the day is.

I have a lengthy family history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity which has sadly resulted in people I love disappearing from my life way too soon.  I have come to respect the existence of family history, but only enough so that I’m aware it exists, and I know which path I will not choose for myself.

When my own cholesterol and blood pressure started to creep up toward and slightly beyond the recommended safety levels in my very early 30’s, I woke up a little bit.  I mean, I’m not perfect (funnel cake and ice cream used to always call my name at the fair), but I would generally consider my lifestyle pretty healthy.  So what’s up?  I’m not a believer in destiny or predetermined fate, so if I am to avoid the health problems I’ve witnessed in so many, I’m going to have to figure out what’s going on, and change something.

After all, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten” – Anthony Robbins

Once I started researching the undeniable effects of diet on health, I could not look back.  It’s been an exciting journey of shocking revelations and facts that were right in front of me all along if only I had been open to listening.

The purpose of this blog is to share with you the things I wish someone had shared with me sooner.  I must admit that people did try to share this message, but when I didn’t listen, they probably moved on with a shrug of the shoulders knowing full well, “It’s her loss.”  I wish now that someone had taken me by my own shoulders and shook the heck out of me until I woke up!

So as much as I don’t want to preach to anyone, I also don’t want to walk away knowing full well, “It’s your loss.”  We all have the ability to make simple changes that will effect the quality of every single day of the rest of our lives.  We only have to realize that it’s a choice and a responsibility to do so.

My name is Christin.  I’m a happy, healthy vegan, and I’m pleased you’ve given me the opportunity to shake you, even just a little.  Welcome to your own adventure.

Christin, I love, love, love your blog! I’ve been a vegan since Nov 15. I have really hit the books, watched several documentaries, & filled my frig with veggies! I am 67 years old & in good health. But like you, I have a huge family history of heart problems, etc.

I’ve lost 7 pounds since I have started this journey. I have always worked out & eaten fairly well. (Growing my own sprouts, ) that sort of thing, but my real downfall was dairy & eggs. No more! & I don’t miss the chicken & fish at all.

Thanks for all of the information. Terri Borkman
